Scientific Program
The ASM 2008 conference talk sessions will be held in the Tattersall Lecture Theatre, in the UWA Crawley campus. Morning and afternoon tea and coffee, and poster sessions, will be in the main foyer of the Molecular and Chemical Sciences (MCS) building. There will be initial registration and an Opening Reception on the evening of Sunday 6 July, in Hackett Hall on campus. Registration will continue on Monday in the MCS foyer. An annotated campus map showing the location of the MCS Building is available here (its map grid location is J15). The Tattersall Lecture Theatre is nearby. Free visitor parking during the UWA non-teaching break should be available on campus (see the Transport page for details).
Speakers are advised that only PowerPoint or PDF presentations can be made, using UWA laptop computers, unless specific software is required. Further details about software options will be provided below. The lecture theatre also has an overhead projector and 35mm slide projection facilities.
All speakers are required to set up their talks at least half an hour before the start of their assigned session. Thus, we urge all speakers to copy their presentation files onto the UWA laptops during the break prior to their talk, so that we can test each file to ensure that there will be no problems in the following session. Some LOC members will be available to help transfer your files, and solve any problems that might arise.

BOK PRIZE TALK
The 2008 Bok Prize Talk will be given by Christopher Hales (Univ. Sydney).CONTRIBUTING TALKS
All conference attendees are invited to contribute talks. Note that non-members of the ASA are welcome to present, but the ASA expects presenters to be members if this is not their first ASM.In 2008 ASM SOC planning discussions, it has been suggested to have a variety of formats, instead of the the fixed 12 mins (talk) + 3 mins (Q&A) = 15 minutes allocated to each speaker in ASM 2007. The following gives a rough idea (as of April 2008) of what the available presentation formats for the ASM 2008 program might be, should this new proposal be agreed upon by ASM 2008 SOC members:
- Invited Talks (about 25+5 = 30 mins)
- Long Talks (about 15+5 = 20 mins)
- Short Talks (about 8+2 = 10 mins)
- `Sparkler' Poster Talks (about 1-2 mins)
- Posters (only)
AVAILABLE SOFTWARE
Two laptop computers (an Intel PC and an Apple Macintosh) will be available for presentations, and only in special circumstances (e.g. a specific piece of software is to be demonstrated) will a presenter be allowed to use their own laptop. This will hopefully cut down on delays between presentations, and prevent most of the problems associated with switching laptops at conferences.Talks may be transferred to either computer using CD-ROM or USB memory sticks.
PAPERS
All speakers are encouraged to submit papers to the Publications of the Astronomical Society of Australia (PASA).PRIZES
Prizes, sponsored by the ASA, will be awarded at the ASM 2008 conference dinner for 1st and 2nd places for the best student talks and posters. For further information (and additions or corrections), contact: Andre Fletcher (abf@cyllene.uwa.edu.au)
