HWWS 2008 Social Events
To motivate students to come to HWWS 2008 in Fremantle, the organisers cannot put it any better than the following quotation:"Although the Harley Wood Winter School is indeed a school, and you are expected to learn a few things, it is also a great opportunity to network, both with the academics and with other students. After all, when the thesis is done and it's time to get a real job, knowing the right people is just as important as having done the right research."

HWWS Registration & Quiz Night
After registration (Univ. Notre Dame, ND5, Rm 113, Thursday 3rd July, 5:00-7:00 PM), there will be the traditional Harley Wood Winter School Quiz Night! Finger food, cold drinks, and hot tea/coffee will be provided in the foyer outside Lecture Rm 113 (no food or drinks are allowed inside - University policy). Questions and answers will have been prepared by a few HWWS LOC (non-playing, hopefully unbiased!) members, who will also mark the sheets. Prizes will be awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd places for the HWWS "Factotum" title.Quiz questions will be on such themes as: astronomy, physics, science, IT, history, geography, arts, entertainment, sport, and facts specific to Australia. So be sure to brush up on these topics, if you so desire it...
Do not worry if your general knowledge is lacking, we will happily give half marks for witty responses!
HWWS Conference Dinner
The Conference Dinner will be held on Saturday night, 7:30-10:00 PM, at the Atrium Garden Restaurant in the Esplanade Hotel Fremantle. The menu will be a buffet, and drinks can be ordered at our tables (the ASA has kindly offered a ~$200 bar tab). This scenic restaurant is adjacent to the Promenade Lounge Bar, which we may adjourn to after the restaurant closes at 10 PM.The buffet menu will be advertised closer to the conference dates; if you have any special dietary needs, please let us know on the registration form, and the LOC will pass on this information to the restaurant staff.
HWWS Guest Tickets
Guests are welcome to attend the HWWS 2008 Quiz Night, at a cost of $20 per ticket ($30 if you register late).Guests are welcome to attend the HWWS 2008 Conference Dinner, at a cost of $80 per ticket ($90 if you register late).
Please order all guest tickets when you register and pay online. For our conference planning purposes, please also indicate in the online registration form whether or not you intend to come to each of these events (there is, however, no registration fee reduction if you choose not to attend an event whose cost has been included in the fee).
