Welcome to the Harley Wood 2008 Website
The Harley Wood Winter School (HWWS) is an annual event consisting of a number of lectures and informal discussions for honours and post-graduate astronomy and astrophysics students. The school takes place immediately before the Annual Scientific Meeting (ASM) of the Astronomical Society of Australia, being held this year at the University of Western Australia (UWA), from Thursday 3 July to Sunday 6 July. The 2008 HWWS is being held at the University of Notre Dame in the port city of Fremantle.Theme for 2008:

HWWS 2008 FREMANTLE TRAVEL/ACCOMMODATION ADVISORY
IMPORTANT: It will be high tourist and conference season in Fremantle/Perth in the June-August period. Please book your travel and accommodation as early as possible (preferably in May). Please consult the HWWS Accommodation pages for specific recommendations for the limited accommodation in Fremantle.If students would like to participate in block bookings or otherwise share accommodation costs in Fremantle with other students, please email Andre Fletcher (abf@cyllene.uwa.edu.au) to be put on contact lists.
Block bookings in a limited number of Fremantle venues could be attempted by the HWWS 2008 LOC in May 2008 (and no later than this if we are to secure enough affordable rooms). All participating students must be able to guarantee the payment for their own share of such block bookings.
HWWS + ASM 2008 STUDENT TRAVEL FINANCIAL SUPPORT
If ASA financial (i.e. paid-up) University-enrolled student members attending HWWS 2008 and/or ASM 2008 require financial help (for travel only), please contact Andre Fletcher (abf@cyllene.uwa.edu.au) for further information.The deadline for applying for HWWS + ASM 2008 financial aid will be Wednesday, 28 May 2008 (one week after the early-bird registration & abstract submission deadlines).
In many cases you may obtain financial assistance from your institution (get in early, as there may be some competition). Any intention or application to do this should be detailed in your request for HWWS 2008 financial aid, to allow HWWS organisers to judge your ability to pay versus your need for aid.
